Public Education

Here at The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine we know that sleep is as important to the foundation of good health as diet and exercise. However, it is something one doesn’t hear about as often. An important part of our mission is to increase awareness of sleep health by speaking to community groups. If you would like Dr. Darley to speak to your group about sleep health please contact us. The topics below are of special interest.

Children and Performance

Recent research has confirmed what many parents might have guessed. When a child gets less sleep than needed they have more difficulty behaving in school, and do more poorly on class assignments. Dr. Darley is currently working with PTAs to offer parent education on how to ensure children get optimal sleep so they can succeed in school.

Sleep Deprivation and Obesity

You may have read about the recent increase in the number of people who are overweight and obese. Sleep research in the last several years has shown that hormones controlling appetite do not work correctly when a person is sleep deprived. So the obesity epidemic and sleep deprivation may go hand-in-hand. Dr. Darley is reaching out to weight loss specialists and support groups to provide education about how sleep habits can contribute to weight problems.
